IMPD 619 Overview of Implants, Techniques and Maintenance
Residents develop an understanding of the concept, history, design, fabrication, placement, prosthetic restoration, indications, and maintenance of various implants including ramus frame, sub-periosteal, graft-less, remote anchorage, and non-root form. Additionally, the use of angled implants, short implants, and cross arch stabilized prostheses is taught. Residents learn about biomechanics and force distributions in relation to full-arch graft-less solutions, and the anatomical considerations outside the alveolar ridge complex of remote anchorage implants. Surgical steps for successful outcomes are shared and demonstrated. Maintenance protocols for different implants and modalities for restoration are presented. Residents also learn to evaluate implants in function and how to diagnose health versus disease with relation to implants versus teeth.
