NUR 532 Nur Leadershp in Healthcare Systems
The role of the nurse leader in healthcare has never been more challenging or more meaningful. This course includes a high-level overview of healthcare delivery in the United States, looking at delivery systems, access to care, and funding mechanisms. In addition, the dimensions of leadership needed to be successful in an ever-changing environment will be explored. Students will examine their own leadership styles and compare them to leadership and nursing theories. The course will review legal and regulatory requirements that impact healthcare and frame the environment in which leaders must function. Students will analyze the roles and responsibilities of the nurse leader in clinical and interprofessional teams, as well as ways leaders can engage team members in shared decision-making. Leading in times of crisis will be explored. Students will integrate knowledge with practice through interviews and observations of clinical leaders.
