MUS 434SI American and World Music
Three hours per week. A survey of American music from William Billings to Bang-on-A-Can. Part I: This portion studies historical trends, aesthetic and stylistic developments and important composers. Part II: A survey of music from non-western culture: Africa, South America, Cuba, Bali, and India. This portion introduces the student to the history of the cultures and music. There is a hands-on portion with the music of Cuba, Brazil, Africa, and Bali. The course fulfills the speech-intensive requirement of the music department.
Prerequisite
MUS 241 with a grade of C or better and MUS 337 or MUS 338 with a grade of C or better.
