IMPD 624 Autogenous Bone Augmentation

The history of autogenous grafting procedures and a deeper exploration into NIRISAB principles are discussed in this course. Residents learn harvesting procedures for intra-oral and extra-oral techniques. Also, vascularized grafts and other intraoral procedures are taught for the purpose of regenerating lost vertical and horizontal ridges. Guided bone regeneration principles, the use of cellular exclusion membranes, and the indications of use are also explored. Additionally, residents learn the different osteogenic and osteoconductive materials, and the associated membranes currently used for the augmentation and reconstruction of stable alveolar bone. The anatomy, function, histology, and pathology of bone augmentation is provided with a history of its development and a review of the different techniques currently being used. The management of complications and revisions is also a part of this class.
