Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Jacksonville University intentionally chooses to place value on students’ interest and understanding of three overarching aspects of human diversity, which include: diversity related to inclusion, equity and issues related to justice, injustice and oppression; diversity related to global citizenship and differences across nations and world cultures (i.e., migration, decolonization, health disparities, human rights, and global health); and diversity related to domestic diversity awareness and topics surrounding underrepresented groups including policies, laws, and the history of strengths of and inequalities faced by domestically marginalized groups.
The three aspects of human diversity reflect the fundamental values of Jacksonville University and it is essential that all Jacksonville University students are challenged to think about these three facets of diversity in the classroom. As such undergraduate students are required to complete 3-credit hours of coursework designated as “DEI,” and these courses are found at every college and throughout many disciplines. Students who are dedicated to increasing their cultural competency and gaining additional knowledge in the area of diversity, equity, and inclusion, can also earn a 12-credit certificate in Diversity.
