Diversity Equity and Inclusion Minor
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Minor (DEI) provides Jacksonville University students with the opportunity to enhance any major through the successful completion of the DEI minor. Developed in support of Jacksonville University's commitment to DEI partnered with innovative student-centered learning, encouraging intentional and ongoing critical thinking, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Minor provides students with the opportunity to increase insight and understanding beyond the required core curriculum. The minor requires completion of the required three (3) credit course PSYC 250/SOC 250 The Power of Difference: Conversations on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and twelve (12) additional DEI credits for a total of (15) credit hours of coursework in approved DEI courses. One of the additional twelve (12) DEI credits may be applied to the student's major or minor. The twelve (12) credits of DEI coursework must come from at least two different disciplines. Successful completion of any one of the three (3) credit approved DEI courses applied towards the minor will satisfy the DEI graduation requirement.
Minor Credit Hour Requirements Credits
Fifteen (15) credit hours are required.
Completion of the 3 credit foundation course PSYC 250/SOC 250
The Power of Difference: Conversations on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion 3
Completion of 12 credits in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion classes. 12
One Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion class selected from the list may be applied to the student's
major or minor. However, this class may not replace or substitute the university core curriculum
course requirements. Classes must come from at least two different disciplines.
Total Credits: 15
Other requirements:
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 in all classes used for the Minor.
- Students who are eligible for the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Minor must apply for it no later than their final semester before graduation.
- Non-JU students are not permitted to complete the minor.
