CS 362 Systems Administration
Technical knowledge and practical experience in managing computer systems running various operating systems. Topics covered include installation, configuration, updates, and troubleshooting of hardware and software components, adding users, groups and roles to the system, maintaining network to ensure that it is secure and operating properly, analyzing network to track performance and boost speed and efficiency. Pre-Requisite: CS 341 with a minimum grade of “C”.
Upon completion of this course student should be able to:
1. Demonstrate understanding of installing Linux distributions such as Kali Linux.
2. Demonstrate understanding of Linux File System standards.
3. Utilize man pages in Linux to learn more about the usage of specific commands.
4. Customize system security through the use of user system profiles, user and group accounts, and file and directory privileges.
5. Apply su and sudo commands to access administrative system privileges.
6. Monitor system functions and security through the use of a variety of system logs.
7. Monitor and control processes and threads in the system.
8. Create and manage users’ accounts and profiles.
9. Manage and administrate different operating systems and be able to automate different tasks using scripting languages.
10. Demonstrate the utilization of automated backup procedures.
