DSIM 529 Optimizing Operations in Modern Corpora
A conceptual framework is provided for evaluating operations management practices in traditional manufacturing firms and service organizations. Concepts, techniques and tools related to the four major decision responsibilities of operations managers are studied and discussed. Concepts and practices, such as operating design, total quality management/six sigma, project management, supply chain management, capacity planning and lean management are examined using practical applications. Several computer-based solutions for operations problems illustrate the tools available to the operations manager. Lastly, this course engages the student in the identification and solution of areal-world case study that will serve as a vehicle to integrate this course with three other courses in the program.
