IMPD 702 Residency Orientation
Residents receive an orientation to their clinical residency site where they will be practicing for the remainder of this 3-year program. Within this 4-week course, residents shadow their Clinical Director, observe procedures, and become familiar with the clinic’s equipment and protocols. Residents also develop competency in medical evaluation techniques, medical history evaluation, pharmacological evaluation, systemic pathologies, and learn how they can impact the occurrence of both short and long-term complications as they relate to dental implant therapies. Additionally, review of patient-based medical-laboratory tests, values, and evaluation of medically compromised patients is part of the orientation. Students also learn the principles, desired outcomes and potential complications of aseptic and operating room sterility, building proficiency in sterilization techniques for surgical instrumentation, aseptic preparation of surgical rooms, patient, and operation theatre. Natural Implant Placement in Stable Alveolar Bone (NIRISAB) principles are introduced and followed throughout the remainder of resident training.
