HIST 401 The Old South

An analysis of the southern way of life based on agriculture, the plantation system, and slavery from the colonial origins through the Civil War. There is emphasis on the dynamics of black-white relations and the ramifications of these relations on political philosophy and action. The differing interpretations of historians from various schools of thought are analyzed to highlight evolving views.
