Master of Science in Healthcare Quality and Safety (MS HQS) Admission
Admission Requirements include:
- A $50 non-refundable application fee.
- A completed graduate admission application form.
- At a minimum, candidates must have an undergraduate degree in any discipline from a regionally accredited university.
- Transcripts from each postsecondary institution attended (including all courses taken, grades received, and, if applicable, degree earned).
- At least a GPA of 3.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale.
- Your most recent graduate entrance exam test score (GRE, GMAT, MCAT, LSAT, or MAT); this requirement may be waived for candidates with a graduate degree.
- Candidates where English is not the language of instruction must also submit a TOEFL score.
- TOEFL - minimum score 650 (paper), 280 (computer), 114 (internet-based), or IELTS – 8.0 if candidate’s primary language is not English.
- Current CV or resume.
- A Statement of Purpose of no more than 500 words describing your interest in the program. Include your personal experiences and how they relate to your goals and expectations for the program.
- Three letters of recommendation; two of which should be professional references. References should be from a supervisor familiar with the student’s work experience and, if possible, an educator who taught the student.
- Unencumbered background check completed by the start of the first semester. Information on the background check may need to be released to agencies for permission to participate at the healthcare site. If placement is denied by the agency, and an alternative site cannot be obtained, the student will not complete the program.
Transfer Credit - Students accepted into the MS-HQS Program transfer a maximum of six semester hours or ten quarter-hours of graduate academic credit from a comparable regionally accredited academic institution. The credit must be in courses similar in content and rigor to Jacksonville University's MS-HQS Program, and the grade must be at least a "B." To be eligible for transfer credit, the student must submit a transcript and catalog description of the course to the appropriate advisor. All transfer credit must be evaluated and approved prior to the start of the MS-HQS Program. Students will not receive transfer credit for courses taken at other schools once they have begun courses in the MS-HQS Program at JU. A letter requesting the transfer credit will be sent to the Registrar and placed in the student's file upon starting the MS-HQS Program. Any work transferred to Jacksonville University will be entered on the JU transcript as hours earned only and will not be used in computation of the grade point average.
Selection Process:
Admission to the MS-HQS Program is selective and limited to those students who demonstrate potential for successfully completing the program. The decision is based on evaluation of the student’s undergraduate program and grades earned, work experience (if applicable), letters of recommendation, including the written essay.
