Department of Media Arts
The Department of Media Arts is committed to research and practice. We strive to empower students with critical thinking, creative problem solving and civic mindedness through applied instruction. Our faculty engage in collaborative approaches to address creative economies and technologies that transform our world. Our students are agile, independent artists who are driving the next wave in media culture that is inventive, reflective and socially engaged.
All students are welcomed, whether pursuing majors in the department, minors in the department or taking individual courses to become a more critical consumer.

Portfolio Review and Scholarships
After acceptance to the University, prospective Media Arts majors should complete a portfolio review in person or by means of electronic submission. Portfolio reviews are scheduled throughout the academic year and are used to determine the student’s skill level and possible scholarship awards.
Limited scholarship recommendations and grant awards are available. Portfolio review appointments may be arranged through theOffice of Admission.
Fine Arts Requirements
Requirements of all Media Arts major students:
- All Media Arts majors are required to register for a minimum of one (1) technique course each semester.
- All BFA candidates are required to complete the Department of Media Arts senior qualifying review requirement before completion of 90 credit hours and registration in MART 450WR.
- The University writing-intensive requirement must be fulfilled by completion ofMART 450WRfor BFA candidates and an equivalent for BS candidates.
- The University speech-intensive requirement must be fulfilled by completion ofMART 450WRfor BFA candidates and an equivalent for BS candidates.
