EE 331 Electronic Power System Design

An introduction to the design and use of power supplies and power generation/ usage will be covered. Basic power factor calculations and circuits needs/ loading within a power budget will be discussed. Off the shelf power supplies will be examines and used along with voltage regulators and voltage converters. Grounding and the proper methods of heat sinking energy, filtering of power lines and surge/ lightening protection are covered. A semester long design project of a basic power supply will be used to tie the concepts discussed in the course to a physical design. This course has a laboratory component.
