ENGL 338 19th-Century American Lit:RomantIcism to Realism
An examination of American prose and poetry from the pre-Civil War romantics to the realists and naturalists who responded in varying ways to the industrial spirit of late-nineteenth and early twentieth century America. Likely to be included are such writers as Emerson, Hawthorne, Poe, Melville, Whitman, Dickinson, Twain, Crane, Chopin, Dreiser, and Henry James.
